WHY JOIN US?

1. FUN RUNS

FUN RUNS: Fun Runs are social, noncompetitive events hosted by Columbines members. They generally occur at least once a month on a weekday evening or a weekend morning and can be based out of a member’s home, at a trail head, or from a restaurant or coffee shop. Fun Runs are a great way to check out a new part of town, go for a run, and (often) socialize over snacks afterward. Contact the hostess for directions or Fun Run Coordinator for more details. Time/date/location information for Fun Runs is also posted on the message forum, events calendar and on our social channels.

2. TRACK WORKOUTS

TRACK WORKOUTS: Megan Greene is our amazing track coach. She was an active track participant with the Columbines a few years ago before her kids after school activities took over her evenings. She enjoys working with the Columbines and continues to utilize the track regularly in her training. She encourages runners of all abilities to realize the tremendous value track workouts can add to their training. Megan is also a USATF Level 1 certified coach. Read all about Megan in her bio – CLICK HERE Join us on Wednesday evenings at Goddard Middle School, located at 3800 W. Berry Ave, Littleton, CO. Megan will be leading this workout. Warm-ups start at 6:00pm with the workout starting at 6:15pm. Session I Dates – March-June Session II Dates – August-October Track is included in your membership, so we encourage everyone to give it a try. If you are training for a 5k or an ultra marathon, the track gives everyone the opportunity to increase speed, learn a sense of pace, and become an overall more efficient runner. One of the biggest mistakes runners can make is to run the same pace, same route, and same distance every time they go out the door. This can lead to overuse injuries as well as boredom. Variation is key for all runners to reach their potential. We look forward to cheering for you on the track soon! Questions? Email Julie at ColoradoBerland5@outlook.com or Megan at greene.meg@gmail.com

3. SATURDAY RUNS

SATURDAY RUNS: Members host Saturday runs at various locations around Denver and in the hills. Distances vary so you are sure to find running partners within the group. Visit the Columbines message board to find partners for mid-week runs or to communicate plans for the Saturday runs. If you are considering joining us on a Saturday run, please know that you will find yourself among some of the friendliest, most encouraging, and truly inspiring women! Our members vary in age, pace, and running experience. You will find friendships, support, and the opportunity to achieve more than you ever thought possible! Please email Jill Fruhwirth at jill.fruhwirth@aol.com if you need more information – she’d love to hear from you!

4. SUNDAY RUNS

SUNDAY RUNS: Run, walk, or stroll along the beautiful Mary Carter Greenway Trail with us on Sunday mornings. Whether you enjoy more of a leisurely pace or training for your next 5K or 10K race – women of all ages and all levels of fitness are encouraged and welcome. Enjoy a scenic route along the South Platte River (often times spotting birds or other wildlife) on a fast and flat running route that offers both paved concrete and crushed stone/dirt paths for those who prefer a softer, more forgiving surface on their bodies. The Sunday Morning Run Group is a good choice to consider joining if you are just starting out with running, getting back into running, had an intense workout with distance runners on Saturday, or if Sunday mornings just fit your schedule. Run, jog, run/walk, or walk with a buddy, in a larger group, or alone – we all meet with the group before and after the hour. We start five minutes prior to our run time at Reynolds Landing. Run time is set at 7:30AM or 8:00AM, depending on the time of year. During the summer months, starting after Memorial Day and through to Labor Day, we meet at 7:30AM to alleviate some of the summer heat. The rest of the year, we meet at 8:00AM. The Sunday Morning Run Group meets every Sunday during the year (snow is cleared from the concrete path). After exercising for an hour, join us at the picnic area at Reynolds Landing for socializing while practicing social distancing. Please wear a mask before and after your runs while interacting with others. Whether you are looking to forge some new friendships or seeking encouragement towards meeting your fitness goals, this group of women has the Columbines spirit of empowering women every Sunday morning. Contact the Sunday Morning Run Coordinator, Angel Horvath by email at angel.horvath@gmail.com.
